Roller reamers are used in boring operations for the oil and gas industry. The main function of roller reamers is to cut earth formations and enlarge the borehole to the desired size during well drilling operations, especially when the drill bit becomes worn and under-gauged. However, even with new drill bits, roller reamers are employed to cut formations because the bit does not always create a true borehole due to slight lateral shifting inherent in the drilling process, which can result in ledges and other distortions. Additionally, a second function of roller reamers is to keep the drill stem centered in the hole at specific positions where they are placed. This role often refers to a stabilizer as it helps maintain proper alignment and minimizes unintentional directional drilling. Popular hole sizes for well bores range from 5 7/8” to 36” in diameter.


Structure & Principle


► Most Roller Reamers have three rollers equally spaced in a single transverse section. Such roller-reamers are referred to as “3-point reamer”. When two sets of three rollers spaced apart longitudinally are used, the roller-reamer is called a “6-point reamer”.
► Roller reamers is consisting of a body, cutter, bearing pin, upper block , lower block, secondary lock block, saver washer, cross pin, washer, and lock bolt. The body of the Rotary reamer is made of high-quality alloy steel and heated up to the Brinell hardness 285~341, and the minimum impact strength is up to 54 J. The ultrasonic sound flaw detection is made at the overall length of the body. The thread is phosphate, greased, and equipped with a thread protector as per API specification
